The three boys in our party: Dan, Dylan and Louis played their first matches in the Pioneer on Wednesday evening in Cologne, Germany. All were hungry for a place in the top 64 but only Dan succeeded by beating Ashish Ramachandran from the USA 3–1. Dylan lost 1–3 to Jack Payne from England. Louis had a tough introduction to the Pioneer losing 0–3 to Hayes Murphy from the USA. The matches lasted well into the night and they didn’t get to bed until well gone midnight. Jenny plays her first game tomorrow.

Juniors Arrive In Köln

After an all day car journey yesterday, three NSRC juniors: Dan Bergin, Dylan Banks and Jennifer Haley plus Louis Randle from Caldicot Squash Club have finally arrived in Cologne to take part in the 21st Pioneer Junior Squash Cup. “The Pioneer” is the most popular and biggest tournament on the European Squash Federation circuit. This year 576 players have entered from all over the world with some of the age group draws comprising 128 players. The matches are split between two sports centres in the city with 25 courts between them and there is a festival atmosphere with some people camping in the sport centre grounds.
The juniors pictured above are now refreshed after a good night’s sleep. Because the draw is so big, the tournament is starting a day early and the boys will be playing their first matches this evening.
Dan, Dylan and Jennifer would like to say a very big thank you to all those people who generously sponsored them. They are very grateful indeed for your support. They managed to raise £620.00 by doing a 12 hour squash-a-thon, car wash and BBQ.
The tournament ends on Monday after which they will move on to participate in the Dutch Junior Open in Amsterdam.

Curr-e-oke Night was a success last Friday with lots of singing, dancing and curry. A huge thank you to all who came and made it into a great night! And for those of you who didn't come, hopefully we'll see you at the next event!
Also Saturday was also a huge success, for the club and the Welsh rugby team! We had a great turn-0ut, serving hot pork rolls at half time, with a cash prize for first try and a raffle at full time!
Our next Match is Saturday 12th March at 5pm where Wales will take on Ireland hoping to make it 3 wins in a row. We will be serving our usual free half time curry as well as the usual raffle and first try.
