NEWPORT 2nd TEAM NARROWLY LOSE AGAIN

After week ones narrow loss 3-2 to Swansea, Newport 2nd team fancied their chances of an upset against the title favourites Newport 1. With an unchanged team, spirits were high as captain Adam Darlow knew that as well as having the team with the best chance of pulling on a night out, he does in fact have a talented squash playing bunch willing to give their all for the cause.
Adam went on first against young up and coming player, George Evans. George proved to be just too quick for Adam and eventually won 3-1.
At the same time Mike Dickens took to the court against Ali Hale. Ali played to his strengths plugging the ball deep with pace. The match was a close fought battle and in the forth game it looked like Dickens required a new set of lungs as he was unsuccessful in the tie-break losing 15-13. Mike also showed how he deserved his A* in Metal shop after desperately trying to re-shape the Tin on court 3. Newport 1 2-0 up.
Next up was Sam taking on youngster Jacob. This was always going to be a long game with both players showing the running ability. Sam just had that extra to give and his experience took him to a 3-1 victory, Newport 2 back in with a shout. Sams' victory was a good start to his evening before tackling a night in Cardiff - "Freshers Week"!!!
Newport 2 were 2-1 down and Chris Scott vs Si Birt at number 3 became a crucial match in the proceedings. Chris (spitting image of the legend of squash Simon Parke) came flying out of the blocks and took a 1-0 lead. Si soon steadied and came back strongly to lead 2-1. Scotty was not finished, however, and used all his skill and killer shots to level at 2-2. The fifth was a roller coaster of a game with some questionable decisions. It went to the tie-break and both players looked nervous tinning a number of match balls. Eventually Si won the game 3-2 and put Newport 3-1 ahead.
Last on were the number 1's. Greg Tippings running out in three close games against Dave Haley. Newport 1 beat Newport 2 4-1.
Next match is Thursday 30th September at home against Cardiff. Newport 2 will be looking for their first win of the season.
